We were notified on Saturday by the Ministry of Education about the following:
Recall of EC Rainbow Sand and Creatistics Coloured Sand from K-Mart. This product had been used in the Associate Principal’s office.
Ministry of Education advice and notice on Sunday.
- At this stage, we do not have enough information to qualify the risk to people’s health.
- People are not required to take any immediate steps to manage their health if they, or their children, have been exposed to this product. However, asbestos exposure can potentially affect your long-term health.
We have closed off the AP office, and we are awaiting an asbestos testing company to arrive and test it.
The sand has been removed, and once the room is tested, the office area outside the office and the office area will be deep cleaned.
No classrooms were using the sand. Please contact me or the school office (09 634 5252) if you have any questions.
